Exequatur procedure

An exequatur procedure is the legal process necessary to enforce a court decision in a country other than the country where the judgment was delivered. In principle, a court decision can only be enforced in the territory of the State where it was issued. To be recognized abroad, the decision must have obtained the “exequatur”. This therefore also applies to foreign judgments that must be enforced in Belgium.
