Cantonment

A cantonment is a form of conditional payment by placing a sum of money in an escrow account. In a judicial cantonment, payment is made via a bailiff, who then transfers the amount to the Deposit and Consignment Office. With a cantonment, a debtor shows that he is willing to pay, while at the same time taking further implementing measures such as sequestration can temporarily opt out pending a final court ruling on the debt.
